Our company is growing. So naturally, we've been going through lots of interviews to enlarge our staff to get your orders to you quickly and efficiently. After seeing so many so many possible employees I thought I do an interview look how to, after all first-impressions are everything!
We'll start with dress. Even if the work place is casual(ours is) your interview is not! I'm basically done with the interview the second a person walks in if they are in plain old jeans and a tee-shirt. Show some respect. Dressing up doesn't mean I expect a full on gown or tux. Khakis and a button down shirt with a simple tie is perfect guys. Girls, a pencil skirt or even slacks at least show you care about working with us. Also, be modest, maybe even conservative with you clothing. We know your a woman we don't need your chest falling out showing us, and you don't really care for your underwear hanging ten feet out your pants. Clothing can say a lot about your personality. We, as well as all other employers, don't want people who are lazy, and disrespectful, so don't dress that way.
Next your hair. One big thing with you hair is you want it to be clean and polished. If every ten seconds you have to fidget with your hair we have a problem. Bobby pins can be your best friend. Pull back your bangs, style them somewhere we can see your eyes light up! Plus, you may not be the kind of person to use hair spray but a light hair spray like
AG Aerodynamics can really clean up any style and hide the fly-aways. If you decide to leave your hair down pay attention to how much control you have on it. If your hair is bigger than you are that is what we call a distraction. After every question we will be waiting to hear what your hair has to say, not you. Fixing, playing or flipping your hair constantly is a sign of insecurity, so make sure to look confidant and have your hair stay in its place.
Moving on to make up. Your make up should be done in a way that says, "I want to be the face of this company!" Not I'm a part time clown at city hall. Before leaving the house make sure that your foundation is soft and your color. We don't want to see a face that doesn't look like its part of you, and most definatly double check that its rubbed in evenly through the neck. It makes me wanna walk over and fix your make up when there is a strong line telling us where you begin and your foundation ends. A smokey eye is fabulous for a night on the town with the girls but for an interview not so much. Its best to simply define your eyes, show us their natural beauty. tans and browns with thin eye liner and good mascara give a much better impression of professionalism. A big recommendation I have is to keep a product like
Jane Iredale's Makeup Facial Blotting Papers in your purse or car so clean up and be perfect for when you walk in.
Last but certainly not least you nails. They may seem insignificant but trust me, interviewers are picking a part every last bit of you so they matter. The best way to go is with a nude neutral color like
OPI At First Sight. It make the nails look clean and well kept without being to party girl or crazy. If you already have your nails done try to match the colors with what you wear for a organized pulled together look.
